SEEVIC College has had a college team for a number of years and this year they made quite an impact in college rugby.
The College entered the National Schools 7s, held at Rosslyn Park RFC a huge event. Entering for the first time the ladies made it through to the quarter finals a huge tribute to all who took part. Some of the players were converted basketball players, some footballers and some who are hardcore rugby players. By the end of the two day event all the players could hold their heads high and declare themselves as rugby players, committed, enthusiastic and with great team spirit.
SEEVIC only had one defeat in the Regional play offs, which was against a West Norfolk College team, the only other college team in East Region, this ensured that the West Norfolk team would go on to represent the East Region in Loughborough for the National Tournament.. However West Norfolk took note of some of the SEEVIC talent and asked several of the SEEVIC girls to join them for the National Tournament and two talented players from SEEVIC went on to play at Loughborough. These two players were Lauren Searles and Kat Emerson. The West Norfolk side with the assistance from the SEEVIC players went on to win a bronze medal at the prestigious event.
SEEVIC also had 3 players selected to play for the England Under 19 Colleges team. A tremendous honour and great for the players involved as they had the opportunity to be coached by some ex England players. The 3 players were Lauren Searles, Charlotte Micallef and Kat Emerson. The girls went on to represent England against Wales.
The final event of the college season took place in Hampshire, a large inter College competition against Colleges from all over the Country. Having developed the team spirit and had some excellent coaching from the SEEVIC, the girls had moved forward with dramatic effect and came away as tournament gold medallists. They beat opposition that they had previously lost to in the National 7s and had shown Colleges around the country that SEEVIC are a team moving forward.
Well done SEEVIC players and staff for a successful year.
